Shot this stunning DBS today. Every angle of this car is beautiful. It is truly a piece of art.
A picture is worth…
Totally double-posting a blog from http://shiftedframe.com , a new site that I have been working on for the past month, but it fit well with my photo stuff so I thought I would share. Enjoy.
So I was bored last night browsing through my digital bin of reject photos that I took over the summer to see if there was something I overlooked. I came across this random snap of Matt Waldin’s front wheel from DMCC Toronto in August. It was taken at about 5am, and I was on my first trip ever with the Drift Brigade crew to take some photos for Mishimoto and lend a hand where I could.
This was true grassroots motorsports if I have ever seen it. Matt and Damien trailered their cars up on a 9 hour drive from Pennsylvania to compete. We didn’t have a place to stay, only two out of the four of us had Canadian money, and we were running on almost no sleep. But it didn’t matter. No one seemed very worried, they would figure out the details later. It was all about the drifting.
That photo means a whole lot more to me now than it did when I took it. It was one of the first shots of the weekend, and remembering the sun rising over the backdrop of the Toronto skyline with the sounds of burning tires and roaring engines evokes a feeling I will not forget. It reminds me why I put up with the corporate bullshit, why I take photos for free, and why I love motorsports so much.
I gained a true appreciation for the grassroots motorists that weekend. Some competitors drove their race cars to and from the event, others had full rigs, but there wasn’t any of the discrimination that I saw at Formula D. They all were there to drive and have fun, and it was truly the most pure environment of people who love the sport that I have ever been around. All I can say is that I can’t wait for next year. Hopefully I will have the opportunity to hit up a few more events with Matt and the crew, and do a full writeup of a DMCC race weekend. Until then, enjoy the snow.
550 and 993C4S
Took advantage of a nice Sunday in the fall to shoot what is quite possibly the perfect 993 and a pristine Ferrari 550. Big thanks to Joe and David for letting me use their cars as subjects, by the way you guys still owe me a dinner.
Ferrari Challenge
Went down to the Ferrari Challenge at NJMP with some friends in September. Had a great time at the track and shot a few cars on the way there and back on the highway.
DMCC Round 4: Toronto
I had the privilege of going to the fourth round of the Drift Mania Canadian Champoinship with the Mishimoto/TunerIcons Drift Brigade team of Damien Bagley and Matt Waldin. After a long weekend of racing and fun Matt took first place and further solidified is position at the top of the leaderboard. Big thanks to Matt and Damien for taking me along, be sure to check back for future event coverage with Drift Brigade!
Cayman S
I know it’s been a while since I updated the site, two more galleries are on the way. Here are a few shots of my good friend Jon’s Porsche Cayman S with GT3 front end conversion. The car is going to go through a couple more changes and then I am going to shoot it again, this time with rolling shots. Until then, here is how the car sits today…
Complete Transformation
Check out Dave B’s fantastic restoration of a WRX that had rolled over. I attached a picture of what the car looked like the day Dave picked it up in the gallery as well…
2010 Camaro
Went out for a quick ride in the new Camaro today with a celebrity appearance from Wayne in his new (to him) Yamaha R6. Enjoy.
Formula Drift 2009, Wall NJ
I spent the weekend at Wall Township Speedway in New Jersey shooting the third round of this year’s Formula Drift circuit. The rain on Friday left us some nice cloud coverage Saturday, which gave myself and the other photographers some interesting lighting situations to work with. Gallery is below, enjoy!
Grand Canyon, Az
While spending the long weekend in Phoenix, we decided to head up to the Grand Canyon for an overnight. I was fortunate enough to catch the sunset along the south rim of the canyon, here are a few shots from the day. Next weekend look for coverage from Hot Import Nights, NY, and the Reading Ferrari Concours.
